John Retired Obituary

John (Jack) Leo Bohach U.S. Army Colonel, Retired

Feb. 22, 1937

Dec. 28, 2016

Jack was born on February 22, 1937, in San Francisco, California to John Leo Sr. and Gladys Rita Bohach. Jack earned a Bachelor's of Science degree from the University of San Francisco. After graduation, Jack married his high school sweetheart, Barbara DeLucchi and together, they embarked on what would be a memorable 30 year military career with the United States Army. During this time, Jack earned his Master's Degree in Latin American studies at the University of Indiana. Jack served his country with pride and honor, rose to the rank of full Colonel, and was highly distinguished and decorated. During his time in the U.S. Army, Jack served two tours in Vietnam, multiple duty stations in Central and South America, and several assignments at the Pentagon.

Jack and Barbara raised three children, Mark William, wife Shannon, Jean Marie, husband Michael, and John Christopher, deceased, and seven grandchildren, Shane Joseph Bohach, Lindsey Paige Bohach-Sadler, Kelly Ann Buckley, Michael Patrick Buckley, Connor Lane Bohach, Jillian Brouke Bohach, and Delaney Marie Bohach. Jack loved them all more than any of them knew.

After retiring from the U.S. Army, Jack spent a few years as Business Manager at Bishop Manogue High School but quickly decided that he and Barbara would much rather travel the world. They spent the next 25 years traveling the continent, visiting and enjoying their children and grandchildren, and spending time with lifelong friends. Jack's favorite pastimes were swimming in his pool, and crafting beautiful gifts that are now cherished by family and friends. Any spare time Jack and Barbara had was enjoyed at their beloved home in South Lake Tahoe.

A Celebration of Jack's life will be held at Our Lady of Snows Catholic Church on February 14, 2017 @ 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Veterans Guest House in Reno, Nevada. www.veteransguesthouse.org/donate/

Jack was a unique and brilliant character. He'll be deeply missed by more than just his family. Hopefully America will always produce men with his combination of humor, courage, and honor.

Will always remember the early days at Auntie Glado's house. Jack was a teenager and thought he wanted to be a dentist. Barbara, you both were so welcoming to me on our few visits. Mother always enjoyed your company. Prayers to you and your family in this time of loss.
Love, Bonnie
