Joyce Henderson Obituary

Mrs. Joyce Elaine Campbell Henderson, age 79, of Rome, GA, passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, surrounded by family and friends.

Joyce was born in Rome, GA, daughter of the late Ernest Campbell and the late Pansy Boggs Campbell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Henderson I, and son, Scott Henderson. Joyce was a retired high school teacher at Armuchee High School, where she coached basketball, cross country, and track and volunteered for another three years with girls' track & field. She was a graduate of Armuchee High School and West Georgia College. Joyce was an active member of Armuchee Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and served as Director of the Women's Missionary Union. She also served on the nursery committee, cemetery committee, and kitchen committee.

Joyce was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was known as Mama, Grammy, Aunt Joyce, Coach Hen, and sister in Christ. Joyce loved her animals and never passed a stray dog on the road without stopping to feed him. She loved to cook and bake. Anyone who has ever eaten at Joyce's house knows that holiday dinners will never be the same without her chicken and dressing, homemade biscuits, and rolls. She will be missed greatly by all whose lives she touched.

Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Henderson Hicks (Ronnie); son, Billy L. Henderson II (Niki); grandchildren, Bailey Henderson, Brody Henderson, and Bowden Henderson; brother, Edwin Campbell; niece, Connie Boozer (Marty); nephew, Lance Campbell (Tonya); several other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024, at 2:00 pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, with Dr. David Howard officiating. Interment will follow at Armuchee Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, on Friday, September 13, 2024, from 11:00 am until 1:45 pm.

Pallbearers are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, on Friday at 1:30 pm and include: Marty Boozer, Lance Campbell, Ethan Campbell, Jeff Cordle, Kevin Cordle, Zach Lansdell, Roger Grizzie, and Gilbert Ruiz.
