Pismo Beach, California- Maria Geraldine Schlais from Nova Scotia Canada, age 96, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home in Pismo Beach on May 4th, 2025, with her children by her side.

Maria was a devoted loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a great-great grandmother as well as a wonderful sister and loyal friend. Maria was known as a fun, hard working loving lady who was an artist, creating oil as well as watercolor paintings. Maria also loved hooking-up rugs which she designed and are now hanging on her children's walls in their homes. Maria loved to swim and would swim the channels from one island to the next in Western Shores as a kid. Maria loved the outdoors and would hike, bike, dance, take off in her sailboat, fly kites, float down rivers on rafts, plant vegetables and flower gardens. Maria was adventurous and loved people. Laughing, loving her family a lot, living life to its fullest and working hard is what she did the best. Maria got her insurance license and partnered with an insurance agency and was the driving force behind them to go national. Work hard and play hard but don't forget to smell the roses along life's path is what she taught her kids by her example. She raised her kids with strong values and always lead by example. She raised her children in the Episcopal church, then later in the Baptist churches.

Maria is survived by her children Richard Schlais, Alan Schlais, Les Schlais, Jennifer Korsmo and Stephanie Antenucci. She has 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

A celebration of life honoring Maria will be held Thursday, May 8th, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church located at 1220 Farrall Ave, Arroyo Grande, CA.
