As I am sitting here writing this with tears in my eyes thinking that 16 years ago today, you'd only have a few days left on this earth. What would I have done differently? I would have stayed and carved that pumpkin with you and your family. The laundry could have waited. I would have told you a million more times how much I love you and needed you. I would have hugged you tighter, I would have made you one more of your favorite meals. You, my son, were one of kind. No matter what was said or done, you had a heart of gold, and I miss you so much.
Losing a child is undeniably the most unbearable pain any parent can endure. There is no name for it. There is no length of time or cure for the crippling heartache- or for the grief to dissipate. There are no words that can comfort a parent/family but only hope that one day this emptiness will be filled when I see you again.
