GALION - Diane Lynn (Ryan) Dolland, 69, of Galion passed away at home surrounded by her family on Saturday, October 5, 2024, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
She was born on September 6, 1955, in Mansfield to Anthony A. Ryan and Sarah L. (Clark) Ryan. She was the fourth of five children.
Diane attended St. Peter's Church and schools for 12 years, graduating in 1973. Following graduation, she began training at Riverside School of Nursing in Columbus in pursuit of her lifelong dream of becoming a registered nurse. She graduated in 1976 and married David Dolland of Galion on June 19, 1976. They celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary earlier this year.
Diane worked for five years at Galion Community Hospital and 30 years in the NICU at Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus. Over the years, Diane provided loving care to hundreds of critically ill infants. She took great pleasure in handing these babies over to their parents once she and the NICU staff had nursed them to better health. Diane was a nurturer in every aspect of her life. She valued her family and friends greatly and was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Her nurturing extended to all living things, whether it was animals in need or flowers fighting weeds.
She is survived by her husband David Dolland and her three children, Brenda Engelman of Galion; Matthew Dolland (Sara) of Nashville, TN; and Christopher Dolland of Columbus; plus, her sisters Barbara Calkins of Cincinnati and Kathleen Ryan Petroff of Dallas, TX and her sister-in-law Pamela Ryan of Mansfield. Diane is also survived by her grandchildren Elizabeth "Ellie" Engelman of Galion and Claire Marie Dolland of Nashville, as well as nieces and nephews.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Michael J. Ryan and Patricia Kulka, and her son-in-law Christopher Engelman.
