Sylvia Dale (Adams) Barger, 91 of Franklin, passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2024. She was born on September 19, 1933 in Madison, Indiana to John L. and Hazel L. (Webster) Adams.
She married Robert W. Barger on March 5, 1954. She is survived by husband, Robert W. Barger; daughter, Debra K. (William) Hallberg of Greenwood; and son, John E. (Julie) Barger of Indianapolis; son-in-law, Dr. Jim Cohen of Zionsville; grandchildren; Amy M. (Klipsch) Sadler (partner, Ryan Rhoads); Ben Cohen (Marisa); Carly (Barger) McCain (Weston) and David Barger; great grandchildren; Isabella Sadler, Quentin Cohen, Kinley Cohen, Jameson McCain and Callie Cohen; step-grandchildren, William Scott Hallberg (Cynthia) and Agenia (Hallberg) Hurrle (Brian); step-great grandchildren, Brent Hurrle, Matthew Hurrle, Eva Hurrle, Gavin Hurrle, Lyla Rhoads and Clara Rhoads.
She was preceded in passing by her parents and daughter, Barbara A. Cohen and grandchildren, Adam B. Klipsch and Sarah M. Cohen.
Sylvia graduated from Shelbyville High School and attended Nurse's training at Marion County General Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was a House and Family Manager. She was employed as the Executive Secretary with the Shelby County Red Cross in the 80's. Sylvia was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church; Delta Theta Tau Sorority, Fairland Ladies Saturday Afternoon Club; Club 20; Triton South Elementary P.T.A.; Shelby County Red Cross; Shelby County Girl Scout Hoosier Council; a charter member of Triton Boosters; a charter member of Fairland Kindergarten and a charter member of the Shelby County Medical Assistants.
Rev. Jenothy Irvine and Rev. Deb Baker will conduct a Memorial Service on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at the Otterbein SeniorLife Community, Wright Chapel, 1070 W. Jefferson Street, Franklin, Indiana 46131 with a reception following in the fellowship hall at the Otterbein SeniorLife Community. Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home in Franklin is assisting the family with arrangements. Inurnment will be at Fairland Cemetery in Fairland, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the IU School of Medicine, Indiana Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, 355 W. 16th Street, Goodman Hall, Ste. 4100, Indianapolis, Indiana 46202, American Cancer Society, 5635 W. 96th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46278 and or to the Grace United Methodist Church, 1300 E. My deepest sympathies to you all. Sylvia was such a sweet lady with a great sense of humor and a real pleasure to be around. I used to sing this song to her at parties: "Sylvia's Mother," by Dr Hook and The Medicine Show. I will always cherish the good times.
