Doris Banister Obituary

Doris M. Banister, age 102 of Pullman, Mich., passed away on Nov. 7, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.

She was born on June 30, 1922, to Sheppard Heard Sr. and Julia Vaughn Heard in Yazoo, Miss.

Doris worked at as a teacher's aide for many years. She was involved in the N.A.A.C.P., and the Chicago Teachers Union.

Doris attended Mount Calvary Church in Pullman, the Holy Angels Catholic Church and the West Point Baptist Church.

A visitation was held from noon to 1 p.m. at the Filbrandt Chapel on Nov. 23, with the funeral immediately following at 1 p.m. with Rev. Charles Knox, from Mount Calvary Church, officiating.

Doris will be laid to rest at Burr Oak Cemetery in Alsip, Ill.

She is survived by her daughter, Vicky Johnson Brown (Tyrone); two grandchildren, Denise A. Brown-White (Connie) and Candice R. Brown-Parrott; one stepson, Larry Thomas; one stepdaughter Desiree Jackson; great-grandchildren, Angel A. Murray, Kami Parrott, Maylaysia Parrott and Charlie Parrott; one brother, Shepard Heard Jr.; one sister, Zenobia Williams; and adopted son Ronald Brown.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents, Sheppard Heard Sr. and Julia Vaughn Heard; husband Charlie Johnson and Ernest Banister and one brother, William Heard.
