James Perry Sr. was born on November 29, 1948, in Cincinnati, Ohio to Sampson and Juanita (Rocquemore) Perry Sr. James was baptized in the name of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in 1993. He was welcomed home by his Almighty Father on Monday, July 22, 2024.
James attended Hughes High School where he met his gift from God (which he called her often), Reta Scott. He graduated from Hughes High School in 1967 and married the love of his life also in 1967 (57 and a half blessed years of holy matrimony) and began their family. James attended Cincinnati Technical College and received an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration. He started his career at the Cincinnati Enquirer Newspaper as a dispatch manager which led him to additional opportunities at newspapers across the United States in Florida, Nevada, Colorado, and Kentucky. James retired after 25 years of service, but could not just kick back, relax, and enjoy retirement. He took on a variety of jobs post-retirement, as a car salesman, Enterprise car transporter, Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, and Uber eats driver.
James was a loving and devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend. A true people person that never met a stranger. He loved all sports, basketball, baseball, and football (WHO DEY). James umpired little league baseball for many years (STRIKE). He loved to have a great time, whether it be singing off key, dancing off beat, attempting to rap, bobbing his head to the beat and snapping his fingers; listening to jazz and gospel music, playing cards, engaging in a mental game of chess, being removed from the domino round table for giving away too many points, traveling, or just spending time with his family and friends. There was always fun to be had when he was in the mix. James’ presence was big and commanded your attention and that was God’s light shining through him. You just wanted to be near him and hear what he had to say. A very wise man he was, and he did not want to keep the information for himself, but wanted to share his life experiences, so that others could be affected in a positive way and create positive change.
James was a holy ghost filled blood washed believer that loved to read and study the word of God. He was a faithful servant that enjoyed discussing the Goodness, Grace, Mercy, and Favor of God, and how his life had been forever changed after being saved by the blood of the lamb. James truly loved God, and he stood firmly knowing that he could do all things through God who strengthened him. The fact God loved him so much he gave his only begotten son to wash away his sins, transgressions, and iniquity would bring him to tears. James wanted everyone to know Jesus like he knew Jesus, and he spent his life spreading the good news. James was an involved member of the Consolidated Baptist Church, he was a greeter, volunteer for the children’s church, and was a member of the parking ministry. James enjoyed every moment of serving God’s people. If James said he was praying for you, he absolutely did and had Consolidated Baptist Church prayer warrior friends to further assist with sending those prayers up to Heaven.
James was preceded in death by his grandparents John and Leila Rocquemore; parents Sampson and Juanita Perry Sr.; brothers, Sampson Perry Jr. and Theodore Perry; son Mario Scott, and nephew Rashad Childs. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and dedicated wife Reta Perry; children, Jacquetta (Charlie) Perry, James (Kandi) Perry Jr. and Malcolm (Angelia) Perry; sister, Arnita M. Pitts; 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
