Robert Shores Obituary

Robert Lee Shores, aged 91, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2024, in Corte Madera, California. Born on March 14, 1933, in St. Louis, Missouri, to the late Leland and Myrtle (Schaefer) Shores. Bob was a thoughtful and intelligent man known for his love of conversation and continual pursuit of knowledge. He graduated from Southwest High School in St. Louis and furthered his education at St. Louis University. After graduating from college, Bob met the love of his life, Dorothy Noltensmeyer. After a whirlwind romance, they married on October 16, 1954. Bob's thirst for knowledge was a constant in his life, as he was always eager to learn. He was an active participant at Osher Lifelong Learning and, for several years, was the Chair of the Advisory Council.

He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1956, dedicating himself to his country with honor and distinction. Following his military service, Bob embarked on a successful career with IBM, where he worked until his retirement. Bob was an avid photographer, a hobby he cherished and pursued passionately throughout his life. He was active with the St. Louis Camera Club winning many honors and competitions. His work graces the walls of family and friends. Bob enjoyed hiking and walking, activities that complemented his love for travel, exploring various landscapes, and capturing their beauty through his lens.

Bob and his wife Dorothy moved to California in 2010 to be closer to their son, Tom. Shortly after arriving, they joined the Larkspur Walkers, meeting three times per week for an hour of brisk walking and conversation. The Walkers became a highlight of his life in Marin. Through the Walkers, he met many dear friends, including his best friend, Carol Zeller.

Bob was predeceased by his beloved wife Dorothy. He will be missed by the family he leaves behind. He is survived by his sons Tom (Ann) Shores of Corte Madera, California, Donald (Anne) of West Simsbury, Connecticut, and daughter Kathy (Michael) of Broadlands, Virginia. He also leaves behind four granddaughters, Jennifer, Lisa, Meredith, and Faith.

Following Bob's wishes, there will be no public services. He will be interred at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions in his memory can be made to a charity of one's choice.

Dear Shores Family,
I was so sorry to learn of Bob´s passing. Our fathers were stationed together many years ago and became fast friends. My parents were Bob and Mary Rose. For many years we always looked forward to the Christmas cards featuring your family and the family dog. In later years we made it a point to get together with your folks whenever mine would travel from California to St Louis. We visited them in their home in Sunset Hills, they were such lovely people and wonderful hosts. My mother and father have now both passed away in 2015 and 2021 respectively. I think maybe now they may all be up there playing cards again or whatever it was they did when they would get together back in the day.
Sincere condolences to all your family.
