Janet Hilk Obituary

Janet L. Hilk passed away peacefully on September 30, 2025 at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.

A private service will be held.

Janet was born on October 9, 1936 in Minneapolis, the first cherished child to Bernard and Marie (Foltmer) Swanson. She was baptized and confirmed at First Congregational Church in St. Louis Park. She spent her upbringing in St. Louis Park and graduated from St. Louis Park High School.

On October 1, 1977, Jan was married to August "Augie" Hilk at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia. They shared 45 wonderful years together. The couple spent their early married years living on the Hilk farm in Waconia, understanding that farm life wasn't just a job, but a way of life. After many hard-working years on the farm, Jan and Augie moved "to town" in Waconia. Jan dedicated about 18 years working for HasSan Lake Insurance Company.

Jan was a devoted and loving mother to her children Lynn and Scott. Jan never missed an opportunity to support them in their numerous extra-curricular and school activities. A devout Lutheran, Jan remained an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia for many years, a member for 45 years. She helped participate in countless events, including Bible study groups, bake sales, etc. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life and guided her service to others. Jan's activities included Meals On Wheels, Birthday Club, Bridge Club, Ruth Guild, and other church activities. She enjoyed traveling and treasured time spent with family and friends.

Jan was a wonderful baker and known for her delicious apple pies. She will be remembered as someone who didn't miss an opportunity to show up at your door with a casserole and listening ear whenever you were "under the weather." Jan was not shy sharing her thoughts and opinions. You knew what her convictions were. We pray the world continues to have people like Jan, who showed compassion, empathy and love. Her legacy of kindness and service will live on in the many lives she touched.

Janet is preceded in death by her parents Bernard and Marie Swanson; beloved son Scott Clayton; special sister and brother-in-law Sandra and Ray Schmidt; husband August Hilk; father-in-law and mother-in-law Herman and Cora Hilk; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Evon and Allen Lenzen, Delores Hilk.

Janet is survived by her loving family: daughter and son-in-law Lynn and Louis Raymond of Hutchinson; niece Michele (Jonathan) Pedersen; great nieces Hannah (Luke) Folkerds, Hayley Pedersen; great nephew Mathew Pedersen; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Carol and Ralph Buetow; nieces and nephews Keith Lenzen, Teresa and Kyle Johnson, Curtis and Lori Lenzen, Eric Lenzen, Richard and Susan Buetow, Paula and Allen Weis, Steven and Jennifer Buetow, Cynthia and Daniel Kapke, Roger Buetow, Helen Buetow; other relatives and many dear friends.
