He was born January 11, 1926 in Linglestown, PA, a son of the late Carpenter K. Ward and the late Martha M. (Murren) Ward.
He was employed as a Truck Driver for New Penn Freight Trucking Company. He also had been a cab driver for the Yellow Cab Co. of Harrisburg, earlier in his life.
He was an avid antique dealer and owned and operated Ward's Auction House in West Fairview. He also was the owner of the former Wink Restaurant of Harrisburg. He later opened Ward's Sub Shop in Florida and also ran a distributorship for Charlie's Chips in Florida. He enjoyed being a Ham Radio Operator in his spare time.
He served as a civilian air raid warden during World War II. He was a lifetime member of the Goodwill Fire Company in Harrisburg, where he actively participated inmany fire call operations. He was a member of the Middletown Moose Lodge.
Surviving are his wife, Arlene H. Ward; a daughter, Janet A. Thornhill of Mechanicsburg; a son, Timothy A. Ward of New Cumberland, PA, a son, Paul Ward of Stewartstown, PA, a daughter, Joan Powers of Stewartstown, PA; a son, Steve Rogers of Miami, FL; 4 sisters, Mary Davis, Thelma Lauver, Marion Hubler, Janet Dailey; 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Monday, May 5, 2003 at 11 a.m., in the Hoover Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., of Linglestown. Burial will be in Shoop's Cemetery, Harrisburg, PA. Viewing will be from 10-11 a.m., Monday, May 5, in the funeral home.
