She lived in Mamou, LA and attended Mamou Elementary School until her family moved to Ville Platte. She graduated from Ville Platte High School in 1947. She and Nathan Fontenot's' first date was at the infamous Evangeline Club in Ville Platte. They married on October 15, 1947 in Ville Platte. After many years as a bank teller, she retired in December, 1988 from Evangeline Bank & Trust Company.
Katherine was a member of several Rosary groups in Ville Platte in which she hosted many friends for coffee, dessert and praying of the Rosary. She was a Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church. She enjoyed reading, gardening, playing cards and loved going to the casino! She also loved cooking for family "get-togethers" and will be most remembered by her family for her "sticky" pot roasted chicken and gravy and her famous rum cake! She and Nathan took many camping and bus trips with family and friends to numerous locations throughout the United States over the years. The best camping trips, however, were at Chicot State Park, only 10 miles from their home. She and Nathan loved following their grandchildren's extracurricular activities as young children and throughout their high school years!
