Frederick Eccles Jr. Obituary

Heaven gained a hero on February 3, 2024, when Frederick 'Fred' Harold Eccles, Jr., 71, passed away surrounded by his family. Fred was born in New Orleans in October 1952, and spent the first half of his life on the Westbank, graduating from West Jefferson High School and later earning an accounting degree from the University of New Orleans. Fred served in the United States Air Force, and Air National Guard. He decided to change his profession from a corporate CFO to a Registered Nurse, since if his wife Johnnie could be a nurse, then surely, he could as well. Fred truly fell in love with nursing and his patients, and they loved him in return. He excelled in the field gaining his Wound Care Certification, served as a Director of Nurses, and earned his Nursing Home Administrator's license. He found his niche. In 2000, Fred and his family moved to Baton Rouge. While he left the Westbank, it never left him. Although some of his humor might have embarrassed his family, people loved him for it. He was his own drummer and he recruited a band to follow him everywhere he went. Fred loved sports, music, travel, a $5 bet, a good meal, Coors Light, and above all his family. Fred is survived by his beloved wife, of nearly 44 years, Johnnie Willie Eccles; his three children, Susan Eccles and her husband, Chad Parker, Michael Frederick Eccles, and Amanda Eccles and her partner, Nicholas Martinez; one granddaughter, Nathalie Reese Parker; two Brussels Griffons "his boys" Toby and Darius, treasured family and friends. A private family gathering will be held to honor Fred's life. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to Adams and Reese LLP, CommCare Corporation, St. Lukes Episcopal Church and to all of their family, friends, and neighbors for all of the support given during this very difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fred's name to St. Luke's Episcopal Church of Baton Rouge (stlukesbr.org; 8833 Goodwood Blvd., Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70806). I loved Fred as my nephew-in-law. He was so much fun to be around and had a big giving heart. My heart aches for Johnnie and kids.
