James Cuicchi Obituary

James Cuicchi, of Terrytown, passed away on October 13, 2024, at the age of 81. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Laura Mistretta Cuicchi and his parents, Lee and Celia Cuicchi. He is survived by daughters Laurie Coniglio (Mario), Jennifer Stansberry (Lee) and Jamie Burmaster (Brook). James was lovingly known as PawPaw to his eight grandchildren Madison, Brennan, Collin, Taylor, Bennett, Mackenzie, Bryce and Emily. Born on a farm in Shaw, Mississippi on June 25,1943, James was the oldest of 5 children; David (Leslie), Richard (Mary), Lisa (Keith), Nell (Jim). He graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering and the University of New Orleans with a Masters in Business Administration. James joined IBM in New Orleans upon completion of his MBA and was a dedicated employee for 37 years as an expert in sales and systems engineering. He was a colleague that could always be counted on to deliver. Upon his retirement from IBM, he worked at Bayou Tree Services as a project bid coordinator. For 15 years he enjoyed being one of the guys sharing in a comradery that was truly unique. James had a full life and was blessed with loving friends and family. He loved living in the city of New Orleans, embracing all of the culture it had to offer. He was a collector of pocket knives with a collection of over 200 that came mostly from the many places he and Laura traveled to. Organizing the annual family beach trip to Orange Beach, Alabama, where he was always up for a game of beach bocce, was important to him. James and Laura lived and raised their family in Terrytown where they were active members of Christ the King Parish community and served many years as a Eucharistic Minister. The family is grateful and sends a special thanks for the compassionate care James received from everyone who cared for him in his home and at St. Margarets Daughters Home and Hospice. Their loving care will forever be remembered by his family as they each made an impact in our lives. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral mass on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at Noon at Christ the King Church, 535 Deerfield Road, Terrytown. Visitation will begin at 10:30am. Interment will follow immediately after Mass at Westlawn Memorial Park, Gretna.
