Eleanor Joyce (Vanderpool) Rubenking, 86, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at Westhaven Community in Boone, Iowa.
A visitation for Eleanor will be held from 9-10 A.M. on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Community United Methodist Church in Ogden with a funeral service to begin at 10:00 A.M. A lunch will follow the service. Reverend Heidi Farmer and Reverend Andy Rubenking will co-officiate. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Randolph Cemetery in Randolph, Iowa.
Eleanor was born on May 4, 1938, in Malvern, Iowa, to Willis Clare and Ruth Evelyn Vanderpool. She attended Malvern High School and was a member of the annual staff, student council, National Honor Society, band, mixed chorus, and glee club, and attended Girls' State.
On June 14, 1956, she married Thomas August Rubenking. From this union 5 children were born. Raleigh Tom (Joy) Rubenking of Norwalk, Iowa. Randall Lee (Joan) Rubenking of Lakewood, Ohio. Andrew Laine (Darcy) Rubenking of Corning, Iowa. Aaron Jay (Pam) Rubenking of Boone, Iowa. And Carrie Mae Rubenking-Wilson (Gary) of Wheaton, Illinois. From this she became the proud Grandmother to Ben, Craig, Anada, Bridget, Kelsey, Amy, Lisa, Michelle, Alan and Emily. These resulting in her Great Grandchildren Nolan, Olivia, Vincent, Elias, Lilian, Arabella, Joaquin, Colette, Rebecca, Evan, Ellie, Alan Jr., Aiden, Christian, Evan, Aaron, and Danny.
Eleanor was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother, always offering support, wisdom, and love in abundance. A longtime bus driver, she would fondly regale listeners with stories of her "kids". Eleanor was a beautiful seamstress. She helped cook many Christmas dinners at her church. A friend to many, she was a cherished member of the community, and loyal friend who leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and generosity.
She will be greatly missed.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband Thomas August Rubenking, longtime companion, Tex Meeker, and her sister Joanne Chambers.
She is survived by her sisters, Pat Cardwell and Marlene Benedict, along with many nieces and nephews.
