Alonna Schreiner Obituary

Alonna Marie Schreiner, 65, of Cedar Rapids died April 29, 2024, at UnityPoint-St. Luke's Hospital following a long courageous battle with COPD and osteoporosis. Friends may visit with the family on Monday, May 6, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home. Alonna is survived by her husband of 46 years, Tracy; 2 sons, Joshua (Ashley) and Benjamin (Sarah) both of Cedar Rapids; 3 grandchildren, Shiloh, Hollis, and Theodore all of Cedar Rapids; brother, William Kahler; sister-in-law, Mary Savale; several nieces and a nephew; cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents. Alonna was born on June 6, 1958, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Everett "Buck" and Margret Meeks Kahler. She graduated in 1976 from Jefferson High School. On June 17, 1978, Alonna married Tracy Schreiner at Olivet Presbyterian Church. For 25 years, she was employed at Amana Refrigeration, followed by 15 years at the University of Iowa in housekeeping. Alonna was a very hard worker who was dedicated to her jobs. She was an animal rights activist and loved all animals, especially cats. Alonna enjoyed spending time outdoors working in the yard, tending to her perennials, and going mushroom hunting. She was excellent in the kitchen, baking wonderful cookies and desserts, and she was a fan of nostalgic TV. Alonna was one of a kind, who loved to have fun, be free-spirited and do things her own way. Above all, she loved her family and will be deeply missed by those who knew her. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Humane Society, 7411 Mt Vernon Rd. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52403 Online condolences can be left at www.teahenfuneralhome.com.

My brother and I grew up with Lonnie and Bill in the 60s, our families would camp and fish together making trips to Lake McBride and other places. Though we didn’t stay in touch later in life those were fond memories that stick with me still today. So sorry to hear of her passing, my deepest condolences to the family.

Lonnie was my best friend in 5th and 6th grade at Truman Elementary. We had a ton of fun together riding bikes to the Tastee Freeze and hanging out at her house. I remember going to her house at lunch time one day to check on her black lab because there was a storm and the dog was really scared of thunder. My thoughts are with her family!

Lonnie was a lovely person. Her smile could light up a room. It was very evident that she deeply loved her family. I'll always remember her for how proud and happy she was at Ben & Sarah's wedding. We are saddened by her passing.
