Patricia Evelyn (Glaser) Malon, PhD, passed away peacefully at her home on October 3, 2024. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry Malon and her brother, William Glaser. Born on January 13, 1934 in Pittsburgh, PA, she was the daughter of Alfred Glaser and Agnes Gilfeather Glaser. The family moved back to New York City shortly after her birth, and Pat lived in New York for most of her life. She and Henry moved to Connecticut in 2013 to be near their daughters.
Pat graduated Hunter College, where she attained Phi Beta Kappa, and received her Master's degree and PhD from Columbia University, all while raising her five children. She taught history and geography for many years at the high school and college level.
She was most definitely a city girl, and enjoyed all that New York had to offer, including dining, museums, theater, opera, ballet and more. She also loved her time in Vermont, where she had family and lifelong friends.
Pat enjoyed a good party, and her children learned to cook and to entertain early in life. She kept up with the activities of her large family by phone, Facebook and WhatsApp. She truly was the glue that held her family together, and she will be greatly missed.
She was strong, fierce, feisty, smart, engaging, opinionated, blunt, adventurous, beautiful, and cherished.
Pat is survived by her children, Paul (Andreana), Carolyn (Stephen), Andrea, Diane (Robert) and Matthew (Yalila). She also leaves behind twelve grandchildren, of whom she was immensely proud: Corinne, Tim (Thais), Michelle (Patrick), Ryan (Rachel) , Christine, Bobby, Alicia, Andrew, Tomi, Christopher, Paul and Jacob, a great-granddaughter, Olivia, and numerous nieces and nephews of whom she was very fond.
A Funeral Liturgy will be held Saturday, October 12th at 11:30 pm at Saint Pius X Church, 310 Westfield Street, Middletown, CT. Burial will be held in Saint Bridget Cemetery, West Rutland, Vermont at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 14th. Friends may call at Biega Funeral Home 3 Silver Street, Middletown on Friday, October 11th from 5 to 7 pm.

Andrea, Matt, and the whole family,
I'm so sorry to find myself, today, in a world without Mrs. Malon. She taught me history fifty years ago at Newtown High School, and a few things about firmness, grit, and zeal for life in the years since. A warm, tough, lovely woman. You have my deepest sympathy.

So sorry to hear the news, but if ever someone lived "the good life" it was Patsy (as my mom and her cousin Wini knew her). I saw her and Hank rarely, but always eagerly looked forward to seeing her. She was not someone to be forgotten, and won't be.
