MURPHYSBORO, IL - Aaron F. Schuster, age 88, of Murphysboro, died at home on September 15, 2023. He was born June 17, 1935 in Murphysboro, to George E. and Ida (Mueller) Schuster. He married Mary Shields in Raddle in September 1961.
Aaron was an electrical engineer, having retired from Egyptian Electric Cooperative in Murphysboro and Steeleville. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology from Southern Illinois University in 1968.
Aaron was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served as an electronics and radar technician with the Strategic Air Command in the 1950's, primarily on the island of Guam. He always maintained an interest in military aviation and was a member of American Legion Post 127 in Murphysboro.
He was devoted to his family. He enjoyed hunting, hound dogs, old cars, air shows, Riverside Park and the Big Muddy River. Although he had lived in many places in his life, he died in the same house where he was born.
Aaron was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Berniece Schumaker and Doris Raines, and four brothers: George Ardell Schuster, Myron Schuster, Delmar "Chick" Schuster and Louis Schuster.
He is survived by Mary, his wife of 62 years; two sons, Duane (Jean Olson) Schuster of Springfield and Wade Schuster of Perryville, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 22, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Crain Funeral Home in Downtown Murphysboro. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with John Reeder officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. in St. Andrew's Cemetery with military rites from the American Legion Post 127 Color Guard.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post 127 Color Guard or to Saint Andrews School.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Crain Funeral Home-Murphysboro.
