Gerald Sheaffer Obituary

Gerald Lloyd Sheaffer, 74, was born on October 22, 1949, in Oklahoma City, OK, the son of Eugene Lee Sheaffer and Mary Magdalene (Willis) Sheaffer. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara Sheaffer; brothers, Steve Sheaffer and David Sheaffer and sister, Eugenia Diane Sheaffer.

Gerald was a resident of Oklahoma City, OK. He married the love of his life, Barbara, on December 28, 1969, in Hugo. Gerald attended and graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University so he and Barbara could be together. After college he worked for his father-in-law at the Brindley Furniture Store and then was a CPA at Burgess & Burgess CPA’s. Later, Gerald became the administrator of Choctaw Memorial Hospital where he resided for almost a decade, overseeing many improvements that greatly affected health care in Choctaw County. Gerald retired from the Federal Aviation Administration as the main accountant for President Obama’s Cash for Clunkers program. He was very active with the Methodist Church of Hugo. During the eight years of trying to have children of their own, he and Barbara fostered kids from the Goodland Home and often had their nieces and nephews spend summers with them. Gerald loved his family and spending time with his kids and grandkids. He will be greatly missed by his family and loved ones.

Gerald is survived by his daughters, Ginger Smith and husband, Nicky of Hugo, OK and Joy Thornhill and Justin of Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren, Brooklynn Thornhill, Kaleb Sheaffer, Trevor Thornhill, Kylie Heinrichs and Kyler Heinrichs; great grandchildren, Zylah Sheaffer, Kai Sheaffer and Klover Sheaffer and brother, Dale Sheaffer along with a host of other family, friends and loved ones.

Extending prayers & sympathy to all the Sheaffer family. Though I wasn't particularly well-acquainted with Gerald, he was such a kind and pleasant person. I'd been a student in Barbara's vo-tech class, and thought a lot of her & her family. God' blessings and care be surrounding all of you as you grieve his passing.
