Mary Marasco Michalski, 91, of Archbald, passed away at home Friday, Oct. 4 surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Edward J Michalski, who passed away on Oct. 10, 2012.
Born in Archbald, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Theresa Marasco. A devout Catholic, she was a parishioner of St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Her penchant for sewing was renowned, first utilizing her talent at a very active dress factory in her home town, and then later lovingly mending her family's clothes at a moment's notice. This was one of many examples of Mary's nurturing spirit felt by all who knew her. Mary was a member of Golden Age Club and she cherished the memories made during their numerous trips. Her culinary skills were second to none, and her delicious meals were a source of comfort and joy for her family and friends.
Proud of her Italian heritage, Mary held a deep reverence for her roots, particularly cherishing the pioneering spirit of her grandfather, the first Italian to settle in Archbald. Mary's legacy is woven into the fabric of this community, as a woman whose kindness, strength and generosity touched the lives of many.
She is survived by her sons, Edward, Archbald; and Mark, Cortez; daughters, Teresa Michalski Salerno and husband, David, Scranton; Marie and husband, Dr. John Sirotnak III, Dunmore; and her beloved grandson, John Paul Sirotnak, who proudly provided care for her in her declining years just as she was actively involved in nurturing him from infancy onward. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, Ralph and Francis Marasco; and a sister, Grace Costolnick.
The family would like to thank her caregivers who not only provided her with the most professional and attentive care, but also surrounded her with love and compassion.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Church on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 10 a.m. Interment to follow in St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Greater Pennsylvania Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
