Mrs. Mary Ruth Thur-
mond Brawner, age 88, of
Mize Road, Toccoa, passed
away Friday, Oct. 25, 2024,
at The Overlook Assisted
Living Toccoa.
A daughter of the late
Paul Elisha Thurmond
and Mary Opal Keller
Thurmond, she was born
Nov. 9, 1935 in Franklin
County, Georgia, having
grown up in the Red Hill
Community and later
moved to Stephens Coun-
ty, where she lived for 60
years. She was retired
from Coats and Clark with
many years of service.
She was a member of
Hunter's Creek Baptist
Church, where she grew
up. Her late husband, the
Rev. Truitt Brawner,
served as pastor at Broad
River, Clarks Creek,
Riverside, Northside,
Mullins Ford and Indian
Creek, and Mary Ruth
served along side her hus-
band in the music min-
istry and teaching. Her
passion was writing poet-
ry and songs.
In addition to her par-
ents, she was preceded in
death by her husband, the
Rev. Truitt Brawner and
by a sister, Jocile McFar-
lin.
Survivors include two
daughters and sons-in-law,
Amelia and Bill Cochran
and Theresa and Ken
Davis both of Toccoa; son
and daughter-in-law, Tim
and Julie Brawner of Toc-
coa; grandchildren, Jere-
my Singletary, Ryan
Cochran, Alison Shelton,
Heather Weckesser, Lance
Brawner, Morgan Walker,
Carlie Rogers and Maddy
Barnes; great-grandchil-
dren, Bryce, Brady,
Samuel, Lilly, Olivia,
Parker, Carson, Saige,
Austin, Keaton, Ransom,
Lily, Joel, Kelsey, Isaiah,
Brantley, Hudson and
Owen Truitt; sisters,
Pauline McFarlin, Sandra
Elrod and Shirley Pritch-
ett, all of the Red Hill Com-
munity in Franklin Coun-
ty; a number of nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services were
held Monday, Oct. 28, 2024,
at 4 p.m. at Hunter's Creek
Baptist Church with the
Rev. Jeremy Singletary,
the Rev. David Ritcey and
Mr. Carson Weckesser of-
ficiating. The following
gentlemen served as pall-
bearers; Ryan Cochran,
Lance Brawner, Zach Shel-
ton, Roland Weckesser,
Marcus Rogers, Tyler
Owenby, Josiah Barnes
and Nathan Walker. Hon-
orary pallbearers were
Steve McFarlin and Roger
Pritchett.
The family will re-
ceived friends at the
Acree-Davis Funeral
Home on Monday from 12-
