April 21, 1945 - October 27, 2024
Robert E. Showens, 79, of Davenport passed away Sunday, October 27, 2024 at his home following a battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be at 12:00pm on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at the Runge Mortuary & Crematory. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport. Donations in his honor can be made to Kings Harvest Animal Shelter. Please share condolences with the family at www.Rungemortuary.com.
Robert was born on April 21, 1945 in Davenport, Iowa, to Peter and Bertha (Pershinski) Showens. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and returned home to marry Mary Schultz on January 13, 1968 in Davenport, Iowa. Robert had worked at the former Tillie Ladder for 10 years prior to moving to the Rock Island Arsenal where worked for 30 years, retiring in 2010.
Robert was a member of the former Grace United Methodist Church Davenport and the American Legion Post 26 Davenport, Iowa. He had enjoyed playing Bing, was a huge WWE Fan, and loved to spend time with his family and his dogs. He liked to keep busy around the house doing variety of projects, but Christmas was his favorite as he would decorate the yard with Christmas lights and decorations.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Showens; daughter, Jennifer (Barrett) Conklin; son, Josh Showens; sister, Ella Haulk; and brother, Larry Showens; along with his nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded by his parents; sisters, Evelyn, Mary, Lois, and Janet; and brothers, Don, Darrell, and Art "Butch" Showens.
