DALLAS — Samuel Alfred Jenkins Austin, 82, passed away Oct.24, 2024, in Dallas, Pa.

Born Sept. 14, 1942, Samuel was known for his dedication to his community and his passion for service. Samuel graduated from Edwardsville High School in 1960. His commitment to service was evident early on as he joined the Naval Reserve, where he served from 1967 to 1969. During his military tenure, he was assigned to the Gemini capsule missions and was a recipient of the National Service Defense Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.

Professionally, Samuel spent many years at Friedman Electric Company and later served at Kingston Borough. He was an active member of the Irem Temple Country Club, in Dallas, and held significant roles in multiple American Legion posts in Kingston, Plains Township, and the PAV, including serving as adjutant at Post 655 in Larksville, and as past commander at other local posts. Samuel lived his faith through his actions, particularly in his relentless support for veterans.

His hobbies included golfing and following his favorite baseball team, the Phillies. He generously donated his time to veteran-related activities, always striving to make a difference.

Samuel was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helene McCormack Austin; his parents, John R. and Emilie Austin; and his brother, John R. Austin, Jr.

He is survived by his daughter, Kelly Peron and her husband Kyle, of Pottstown; sisters: Suzanne Sult, of York, Pa.; and Florence Gimble and her husband Ray, of Larksville, Pa.; cousins: Anthony Gober, of Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; and Mary Teresa Regalis, of Binghamton, N.Y.; as well as many nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday from Kielty-Moran Funeral Home Inc., 87 Washington Ave., Plymouth. Interment with military honors be held in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Wyoming. I´m deeply saddened by the passing of Sammy. He was a beautiful and generous soul. He had a way of lighting up the room with his kindness and positive energy. He is already missed very much at Budds Pizza by his numerous friends. I feel extremely grateful to have known him.
