Elizabeth Bird Obituary

Bird, Elizabeth
WATERVLIET - Elizabeth "Beth" N. Bird, 69, passed away peacefully at her home in Watervliet, N.Y., on January 17, 2024. Beth was born in Albany, N.Y., on August 31, 1954, to the late John and Helen Noonan, and was an older sister to Diane Donnelly.
While a lifelong resident of Watervliet, Beth enjoyed spending time with relatives in Chatham, N.Y., in her childhood. For education, she attended St. Brigid's School, Watervliet High School, and the College of St. Rose, where she graduated with a BS in social work. Beth used her degree to provide care for the elderly at several institutions throughout her career. She was actively involved in religious organizations and senior centers, continuing to provide elder care in her free time. Until his death, she was married to Dennis Bird for 25 years, and had two children, Katelyn Schwenker (husband David) and Jonathan Bird (wife Lindsey). She enjoyed being in her yard, watching the birds on her porch, and caring for her cats, but her greatest pleasure in life was sharing time with her five grandchildren.
Beth's remains will be laid to rest at Niverville Cemetery with her family and husband. A memorial service will be held at Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet on Friday, January 26, 2024, at 6 p.m., with visitation before the service from 4-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to "Lifepath at the Watervliet Senior Center" or "Pyramid Life Center" - two places where Beth found great comfort in life. I was shocked to hear of Beth's passing! We knew her from the 1970s when we all spent time with the prayer group movement of that time. She was a wonderful and thoughtful person. She was a person of great faith. Over the years we enjoyed experiences with her and husband Dennis and enjoyed her friendship after Dennis' passing. We will miss her joy, commitment and enthusiasm!

Elizabeth Noonan Bird was a dear friend from our youth introduced to me by her neighbor and friend, Donna Granato Aucompaugh. Beth's joyfulness, kindness, and pleasantness made us immediate friends. Going out to lunch with her then, and later in life, always proved to be fun, interesting, and a culinary adventure.

I was always impressed with Beth's insights, spirituality, and inclusion of others. This included, among other occasions, being invited to the baptisms of her children, Katelyn and Jonathan. I was warmly connected to other guests at the beautiful parties following both events. I also enjoyed cooling off in Beth's pool.

Often life and physical distances interupt the regular shared time with a pal. Sadly, this happened with Beth and me. However, about a year ago, I reconnected with her by phone. Beth was so happy to hear from me! In the light of her recent passing, I am so glad that I made that call!

May dear Beth be reunited with her parents and with Dennis in that wonderful place where pain and trouble are no more and where light and love abide. My thoughts and prayers are with Kate and Jonathan and their families and with Diane.

Beth was such a nice person. My memories of long ago were interacting with her when she would drop Jonathan off at Parkside Preschool and pick him up at the end of the day with his sister by her side. She would come to chat at Blessings Day Care as well, where we frequently had conversations, but the Watervliet Senior Center was where the two of us interacted most often. Beth had many great stories to tell about her family, friends and career. What a great friend she was! Thanks for taking such good care of Versi for me, Beth! You will be missed, my friend! Jonathan and Kate, my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Stay strong and know that your mom was loved by many.
