Bonnie Jean Haase

1939 - 2024

Bonnie Jean Haase, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2024, at the age of 85. Born on November 9, 1939, in Toledo, Bonnie filled her life with love, care, and a persistent commitment to her family and faith.

A proud graduate of Burnham High School in 1958, Bonnie dedicated 18 remarkable years as the secretary at Bedford Alliance Church, where her warm personality shone through every interaction. Bonnie's passion for her faith and nurturing spirit led her to teach in the nursery and children's Bible school, as well as after-school Bible classes at Whiteford Elementary. Her influence touched the lives of countless children, guiding them on their spiritual journeys with kindness and understanding.

As a charter member of Bedford Alliance Church, Bonnie played an integral role in the church's growth and community outreach, always willing to lend a helping hand or offer a comforting word. Her life was a testament to her unwavering faith, and her legacy will live on through the many lives she impacted.

Outside her cherished work, Bonnie had a multitude of interests that brought her joy. She loved to babysit, embracing the opportunity to nurture and create bonds with the younger generations. Her passion for reading was particularly evident in her fondness for Amish Romance novels, whisking her away into worlds filled with love and devotion. When evenings settled in, you could find her indulging in her favorite Hallmark movies.

Traveling was another of Bonnie's great loves, with a particular affection for bus tours and cruises, where she created unforgettable memories with her husband. Family reunions were highlights for her, Bonnie cherished every laughter-filled gathering and every shared story.

Bonnie leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness. Her nurturing spirit and unwavering dedication to her family and faith will forever be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She touched the hearts of many, and while her presence will be profoundly missed, her spirit will continue to inspire those who strive to carry forth her legacy of compassion and warmth.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Morris and Ellajane (Bashaw) Stone; sister, Darlene; and sister-in-law, Kitty Stone. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 63 years, Don Haase; children, Jeff (Rita) Haase and Shari (Scott) Knapp; grandsons, Jared (Lexi) Haase, David Knapp, Jack Haase and Matthew Knapp; brothers, Ronald, Jim, Dan (Marsha) and John Stone; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive guests on Monday, January 6, 2025 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home - West Sylvania Chapel, 3655 King Rd, Toledo, where a Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at 10:00 am. Burial will immediately follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.

The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the staffs at Kobacker Senior Unit, Swanton Valley, and Ohio Living Hospice for their care of Bonnie. Those wishing to donate in Bonnie's memory are asked to consider the Bedford Alliance Church Youth Fund or WLMB Television in Toledo.

Dear Don, Shari, Scott,Jeff, Rita and the whole Haase family:

I am so sad to miss being with you at this difficult time. I am laid up at home with a horrible respiratory virus and I am highly contagious at the moment. I wanted to express how thankful I am not only for all the wonderful ways Bonnie has touched our lives but also the whole Haase family. We are so grateful for such wonderful longtime friends. Anyone who knew Bonnie knew what a special and sweet lady she was to everyone. I have so many fond memories of her and Don opening their home for youth group events when I was a teenager, assisting me with any office needs for Vacation Bible School dramas and later also when we worked with the teens or needed copies of music. She would happily stay after church services and listen to Don and I practice for special music. She went the extra mile to make a beautiful program for Gary and I when we were married. And Don arranged a wonderful car for our ride to the hotel after with our special drivers Scott and Shari. I loved rocking babies together with Bonnie in the nursery and she always offered to rock my baby when I was a new mother so I could sit in the church service. So many great memories playing games at church socials. Special memories celebrating my Dad and Dons 50th birthdays. Bonnie was always helping celebrate others and making them feel special. I am incredibly thankful for the friendship Bonnie gave to my grandmother Edith Benton and how much she cherished her. And Bonnie´s friendship to my dear mother Barb Brandeberry. I am eternally grateful to Bonnie and Don for taking my grandmother into their home for a while after my mom had a stroke and could no longer be her caregiver. We had two little boys and I was pregnant with my 3rd child and trying to care for my grandmother myself and sweet Bonnie reached out to our family and offered to take her in. Truly, what a gift to know my grandmother was in such loving hands. I know this extended my grandmothers life and brought so much joy to her. I share so many great memories visiting at their house singing along to the Bill and Gloria Gaither Sing a Long Hour.
I remember Bonnie coming and being such a special part of my graduation party, my bridal shower, wedding and baby showers. She was always such a wonderful sweet spirit and Godly example to follow. Heaven has truly gained one of the greats. Not only was I blessed with an incredible mother but additionally blessed by a church mom like Bonnie too!
Although it is so sad to lose her here on earth, how blessed I am to know I will see her again and that she is reunited with her special friend Edith and my mom, the Tolleys, the Andesons, Hal Fetterman, Bob Wilkinson and so many of the strong pillars of faith that I have been so privileged to have in my life.
How wonderful to get to experience a bit of heaven on earth while she was here. I will never forget when I first learned of Bonnie. My friend Shari in 2nd grade would tell me how she could pick her mother up! I was confused and in a bit of disbelief until I met her later that year at Shari´s birthday party and discovered this sweet petite tiny little lady was real! She may have been a tiny package but she came with a huge heart! Rest in Peace Bonnie. We are so much better for having known you.
Love and comfort to you all.
