Gladys Peace Obituary

Gladys Ruth (Strouse) Peace, 92, of Paradise, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, while a resident of Christ the King Manor in DuBois, PA.

Gladys was born on October 14, 1931, to the late Willis H. and Amy J. (Beck) Strouse in Paradise.

She graduated from Reynoldsville Area High School and worked at Cameron before she was married.

Gladys married the love of her life, John L. Peace, on November 10, 1951, at the Paradise Lutheran Church; John preceded her in passing on July 9, 2009.

She spent 35 years working alongside her husband, John, in their auto mechanic shop, Peace's Garage. Gladys also took great pride in taking care of her family and children as they grew. She loved her family and was a great mom and wife. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and cooking. Gladys was known in the community for her blueberry pie baking and turnovers. She also enjoyed all animals.

Gladys is survived by six children: Amy Gigliotti, Jon (Debbie) Peace, Arnold "Arnie" (Nora) Peace, Tracy (Dave) Minnear, Kenneth "Ken" (Judi Connelly) Peace, and Arik Peace; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Gladys was preceded in passing by son-in-law, Gerald Gigliotti; and six siblings: Lois Pifer, Earl Strouse, Bruce Strouse, Grace Peace, Alice Peace, and Willis J. Strouse.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, from 6-8 p.m. at the Snyder – d'Argy Funeral Home, 206 Main Street, Reynoldsville, PA 15851. Aunt Gladys was such a good person. My heart aches for the loss of the last of the Willis and Amy Strouse children, but is soothed a bit knowing they have all been reunited in Heaven. Sending love and deepest sympathy to all my Peace cousins.

After I submitted my memory and condolence, I walked into my laundry room and realized that I was standing on a rug that Glady's made for us when my husband and I were married almost 41 years ago! :)

Glady's made the most wonderful pies! My parents raved about them and one August, visiting me in Pittsburgh, they brought one and I still remember it-- peach with the flakiest crust I've ever eaten. My Dad loved going to their place and picking blueberries, talking with her and John. They were good friends to my parents, I saw Gladys a couple of times over the past 2 years when I went to CTK to visit my Dad, and I extend my sympathies to her family. She was a treasure, for sure.

So many memories but 1 probably changed my life as Gladys was my 4-H sewing leader which has inspired me to make sewing my hobby!
