LE ROY - With deep sorrow, the family of Martin D. Baxter, 66, of Le Roy, IL, would like to announce his passing at 7:49 AM, May 21, 2024, at home, surrounded by friends and family.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Oak Grove Cemetery, Le Roy, IL, with Pastor Dave Ashby officiating. Military rites will be accorded. There will be no visitation. Following the cemetery all are welcome to the LeRoy American Legion where a meal will be provided until 2:30 PM.
Memorials may be made to the Ruel Neal Post 79 Le Roy American Legion; or Humane Society of Central Illinois, Normal, IL.
Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Le Roy, IL, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Martin was born on February 12, 1958, in Iowa City, IA, a son of Robert and Laura Liles Baxter. He married Teresa "Tish" Borries on July 7, 1980, in Le Roy, IL. She survives.
In 1985, with some research from his wife Tish, Marty found out he has five siblings after growing up thinking he was an only child. This was an exciting and life-changing time in Marty's life.
The surviving siblings are: Robert (Diana) Baxter of Richland, WA; Margaret (Robert) Haller of Muscatine, IA; Connie (Terry) Hoatland of Bradenton, FL; Lisa Baxter Nazareth of Muscatine, IA; Scott (Raven) Baxter of Burlington, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Martin was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a passionate collector of antiques. Martin also loved to go fishing with friends and family at his cabin in Bath, IL. He was a loving husband, brother, devoted friend, and free spirit who will be deeply missed.
