Richard Jacobus Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Bruce Jacobus, of New Kensington. Rick passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at the age of 78 after a courageous, year-long battle with cancer. Born to Wilbur and Florence (Suprenant) Jacobus on April 2, 1947. Richard was a proud 1965 graduate of Ken High and went on to attend Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He dedicated over 30 years of his career to research at the Alcoa Technical Center and later served the city of New Kensington as code enforcement officer for over 10 years with the same dedication and integrity. Richard was married to the love of his life, Anne Lynch Jacobus, for over 48 wonderful years. Together they raised two daughters, Carrie (Jeff Karaica) and Courtney (Michael) Hernandez, who brought him immense pride and joy. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his girls on family vacations and dinners and with his cars. A lifelong car enthusiast, Richard loved working on classic cars and owned many over the years his prized 1966 Corvette being a favorite. His hobby created lasting friendships with many cherished friends. He was also a devoted Pittsburgh sports fan and was a proud Steelers season ticket holder for over 50 years. Richard will be remembered for his warmth, loyalty, and quiet strength. His deep love for his family, his passion for his hobbies, and his dedication to his community leave a lasting legacy. He was a man who was always willing to help a friend, family member, or stranger in need, and his generosity will be missed by many. A viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 11, 2025, at R.J. SLATER IV FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES (1000 Freeport Road, New Kensington). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at St. Margaret Mary Church (3055 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell). In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made in Richard's memory to the American Cancer Society (donate.cancer.org).

I knew my friend Rick since grade school-St. Joe's in New Kensington. We were both altar boys. In Christmas and Easter processions, Rick was the cross bearer, due to his height. We were good pals in HS, in many of the same classes. Plane geometry with Mr. Moody and physics with Mr. _____________.
We had many a good laugh in those classes. I remember that Rick was quite good at math. He worked after school at Hawk's auto body shop and learned many car restoration skills. I can remember riding down Freeport Rd. past the Dairy Queen and waving to HS friends in an MG he had. His car interest was infectious. We liked The Beach Boys, especially the "car songs" - Little Deuce Coup. When I hear The Beach Boys I remember my friend Rick. God bless his good hearted soul.
