Hilda Polosky Obituary

Hilda Arlene (Short) Polosky, 90, of Latrobe, passed away on Monday, Feb. 10, 2025, at Heritage Valley, Beaver Hospital. Born May 28, 1934, in Latrobe, she was the daughter of the late Joseph F. and Gertrude A. (Capp) Short. Hilda was an active member of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, where she helped with sacristan duties and maintaining the church, making pierogies, and leading the Rosary. She also loved attending her son's church, SS. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Ambridge. Hilda was an excellent baker, loved reading, country music, and canning. She also cherished visiting friends and neighbors, especially the homebound. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Michael J. 'Monk' Polosky; one daughter, Julie Ann Polosky; two brothers, John and Charles Short; and two sisters, Beatrice Ulishney and Mary Heine. Hilda is survived by one son, Rev. Michael J. Polosky, Pastor of SS. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Ambridge, PA; one daughter, Mary E. Benvenuto, and her husband, Mark, of Royal Oak, MI; two grandchildren, David Benvenuto and Christian Benvenuto; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Ruth Ann Newhouse. Family and friends will be received from 4 p.m.to 7 p.m. Thursday at the LOPATICH-BRINKER FUNERAL HOME, LLC, 601 Weldon Street, Latrobe. A Parastas service will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, in the funeral home. Panachida service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, in the funeral home followed by the Divine Liturgy at 11 a.m. at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church with her son, Rev. Michael Polosky as celebrant and Rev. Oleg Popyuk concelebrating. Interment will follow at St. James Lutheran Cemetery, Youngstown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SS.
