Gordon Gears Obituary

Gears, Gordon Albert

July 8, 1935 - October 25, 2024

Gordon Albert Gears, born July 8, 1935, passed away on October 25, 2024, at the age of 89 in Edgerton, Missouri. Unfortunately, he struggled with Alzheimer's in the later years of his life, but, always the fighter, remained active and worked daily on the farm where he lived until he passed. Born in Rochester, NY, Gordon attended Fairport High School then served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. Following his service, he attended St. Lawerence University where he played football and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. After graduation he moved to San Francisco where he met his wife, Irene Pouey, whom he married in 1963. Both were travelers, and spent a year with their children traveling through Europe and North Africa in a VW bus. Upon their return, Gordon accepted a job that moved the family to Tulsa, OK., where they raised their children. Gordon spent over 20 years with Minnehoma Insurance Company. Irene and Gordon continued to travel the world, but he unfortunately lost his Irene in 2005. Gordon always had an affinity for mountain climbing; he summited Denali, Kilimanjaro, Rainier, and many other lower state mountains. He also attempted Everest, Shishapangma, and Aconcagua, and at the age of 74, returned to the Himalayas to attempt Cho Oyu. Although he was unsuccessful, he embraced the challenge. Many people from Tulsa will remember him at the gym pounding the stairmaster, using colorful words, playing soccer with the Rowdies, and active in the Green county soccer development. He also volunteered with the Boy Scouts with his two sons, helped with Habit for Humanity, and tutored Native American students.

He was preceded in death by his wife Irene, and his two brothers, Harold and Carl. He is survived by his three children: Clinton, Adrienne, and Grantland as well his four grandchildren: Payton, Cole Jack, Holly, and Danielle.
