William BOITZ Obituary

Age 81 of So. St. Paul, MN Passed away December 14, 2023 peacefully at home surrounded by family. Bill was born June 28, 1942 in Ely, MN to William and Mary Boitz. After graduating from Ely High, he attended Ely Jr. College, transferring to Bemidji State University where he obtained his bachelors degree in elementary education. On June 3, 1967 he married the love of his life, Diane (Fulgham) in Biwabik, MN. Together they settled in So. St. Paul where they built a life filled with love, happiness, and memories with their family. Bill will be remembered for his dedication to education and making everyone he met feel special. He exemplified strength and resilience and his work ethic surpassed that of any other. Coaching was another highlight of his career creating many favorable memories. Another joy was his love of truck driving, which he did throughout his life. There wasn't a truck he could not handle, and he took advantage of all opportunities to foster this passion. The lifelong friends he gained were most treasured. Bill is survived by his wife Diane; daughters Michele (Matt) Purdy, Nichole (Bill Muhvich) Boitz, and Melissa (Scott) Magnuson; grandchildren Hannah, Noah, Emma, Olivia, Sophia, Lydia, Austin, and Abby; great grandchildren Owen and Isla; siblings James Boitz and Nancy (Lyle) Alexson. Bill very proudly donated his body to the University of Minnesota continuing his teaching legacy. We would like to thank the medical staff at U of M Fairview for their compassionate care, with a special thanks to Dr Lynn Burmeister and Dr Amit Kulkarni. A celebration of life to be held at a later date. Memorials preferred to So. St. Paul Educational Foundation or University of Minnesota Masonic Cancer Center.

Bill I am so saddened to learn of your passing. I enjoyed having the opportunity to teach with Bill my first few years of teaching. I have ran into him and Diane a few times since his retirement at a few casinos or sadly other co workers funerals. Bill was always such a great guy to catch up with and was helpful to me as a new teacher. He will be truly missed.

Bill, I had a lot great memories growing up with you and Diane
And then you both became my teachers. And though I was young and rebellious I looked up to you
Life happens so quickly and it´s unfortunate that I wasn´t able to stay in your day to day life. But you will be remembered and truly missed. Love you both Matt and Nikki Erickson

We will certainly miss a good friend, a dedicated MN State hockey enthusiast. Young and old Bill listened and was interested in everyone he conversed with. Not only did Bill embody his Iron Range roots he lived them!

Greatest guy ever! I had Mr. Boitz for a teacher in 1971 we always had something in common and that was Hockey. He would take the class out at Jefferson high for open skating every once in a while to leave the books behind. Also working for Woog Brothers construction we would run into each other as he was a cement truck driver during the summer a few years. Also, just running into Bill around town was always so enjoyable always wondering how the family was doing as he taught most of my brothers and sisters family of seven. My condolences from the Lick family to the Boitz family.
Rest in peace William
