January 16, 1938 - July 13, 2025

Marvin D. Brown, 87, passed away July 13, 2025, at Heritage Estates in Gering, Nebraska.

VIewing will be at 9:00 am, Friday, July 18th at Calvary Lutheran Church in Scottsbluff, NE with funeral service starting at 10:00 am with PMA Tom Smith and Pastor Kathy Montira officiating.

Memorials in Marvin's name can be made to Rejoice Lutheran Church or to be determined by the family at a later date.

Marvin was born January 16, 1938, In Oshkosh, Nebraska. Marvin's parents were Vern Phillip Brown and Verna Freda (Thomsen) Brown. Marvin Graduated from Garden County High School in 1956. After graduation, Marvin worked for his father at Brown Electric then moved to California to join his uncle as an electrician. In 1959, Marvin moved back to Oshkosh and again worked for his father.

On May 20, 1962, he was united into marriage to Lynette Sue Tophoj. To this union three children were born, DeAnna, Randy, and Todd. The week following his marriage, Marvin started working for the United Telephone Company in Oshkosh, Nebraska. Marvin and Lynette lived in Oshkosh until 1976 when an opportunity for career advancement facilitated a move to Gering. Marvin retired from the Telephone company in 1987. Marvin then worked for Firstel as a private contractor.

Throughout his life Marvin was active in the Lutheran Church serving multiple terms on the church council at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Oshkosh, Calvary Lutheran in Scottsbluff, and Rejoice Lutheran in Gering. Marvin enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards and teasing his grand and great-grandchildren.

Marvin is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Lynette; daughter DeAnna (Ted) Jenkins of Gering, NE; sons Randy (Beth) Brown of Kearney, NE, and Todd (Teresa) Brown of Mitchell, NE; 7 grandchildren Justin (Kaley) Brown of Kearney, NE, Nicole (Patrick) Mooney of Cheyenne, WY, Alexandrea Bryant of Omaha, NE, Cody (Emilee) Brown of Lincoln, NE; Brady Brown of Kimball, NE, and Brandon Brown of Mitchell, NE; 3 great grandchildren, Kenzlie, Cayden, and Aurora; mother in-law Betty Tophoj of Oshkosh, NE; sisters Janice Dorman of Clovis, NM, Julia (Rich) Miller of Alliance, NE, sisters-in-law Barbara Zorn and DeEtta Swanson of Oshkosh, NE; and many friends and neighbors.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Vern and Verna Brown; father in-law Erwin Tophoj; brothers-in-law Lamont Tophoj, Bill Zorn, Glen Schwartz, Bob Swanson, and Keith Dorman.
