William Godwin Obituary

William Edward "Bill" Godwin, Prattville, Alabama. He was the devoted husband of Jerrie Godwin for 37 years. Born on January 14, 1939, in Chapman, Alabama (Butler County), passed away peacefully on Aug. 10, 2025, surrounded by love. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at Prattville Memorial Chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Wayne Rouse and Daryl Hamby officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. William is survived by his children, Ricky Godwin (Kay), Coy Ausborn (Les), Dee Dee Edwards (Brent); He was a proud grandfather to Derrick Godwin (Sara), Rickie Marie Weathers (Shane), Bridget Thomas (Kendrick), Aron Smitherman, Chelsea Burnett (Kendall), Katelyn Gauthier (Levi). William also leaves behind 11 great-grandchildren. 3 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stella and John Goins, and Lonnie Godwin, as well as his brother, Wayne Godwin. After dedicating 25 years to Union Camp, where he worked at the Chapman Mill and Thorsby Mill, William later worked at Buchanan Lumber in Montgomery. A man of strong faith, he believed fervently in his Lord Christ the Savior. He loved to fly-fish and travel the United States in the motorhome with his wife. William was a wonderful father and Paw Paw, remembered for his kindness and faith. He loved to watch Alabama Football and the Braves. He especially enjoyed cheering on any of the many grandchildren in every sport they participated. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A celebration of his life will be held to honor his legacy of love and faith.
