Amy Thofson-Rush Obituary

Amy Marie Thofson-Rush
October 9, 1974 - October 15, 2024
Amy Thofson-Rush was born on October 9, 1974, in Wenatchee, WA. She lived life on her own terms. She valued family, friends, independence and freedom and those values were lived out every day of her life.
Amy was well loved and widely known for her sharp wit and warm, outgoing and humorous personality. In her heart, she wanted nothing more than to live as the best mother, sister, daughter, grandma and friend she could be. Not everyone was aware of the intimate battle she fought with depression and her struggle with addiction that ultimately claimed her life on October 15th, 2024, at the age of 50.
Amy built a large circle of friends, having attended both Wenatchee and Eastmont throughout her high school years. After graduating with the Eastmont class of 1993, Amy went on to attend Washington State University where she received her Bachelor's degree in Social Services. But throughout her professional life, her happiness and fulfillment were most prominent during her time spent in the travel industry. Planning and booking trips for not just herself but also for others brought her so much joy.
Amy was so much more than her battles. She was courageous and strong and she loved hard, especially her two boys, Colby and Cameron, and her niece, Kaelyn, all of whom you would see highlighted across her social media, where she boasted proudly of their accomplishments. She was so excited to become a grammy to her grandson William. Family and social relationships were very important to her, and she always made time for the people she loved, going out of her way to show up to all the important events in their lives. Under that thin, protective shell, she was sensitive, caring and sentimental. She was openhanded, tolerant and accepting and many found it easy to approach her for an ear or for advice on their own struggles and battles. Just one look at her Facebook page and it is clear that she touched the lives of so many.
She was a loyal Starbucks drinker, and a proud WSU alumni, but you know, not just the everyday proud alumni, but the kind that bled crimson and grey and found kinship in literally anyone identifying themselves as a fellow Coug. Her love for travel took her to many exciting places where she easily created friendships and memories that she would carry throughout her life. Some of those friendships were just random Golden Retrievers out for walks with their people. Yes, she never met a Golden she could pass by without initiating a conversation or stopping for a quick pic she could add to her Facebook page. She loved GR's and we are certain she has reunited with her well-loved, best boy, Maverick.
Amy is survived by her sons Colby Rush (Catherine) and grandson William of East Wenatchee, WA and Cameron Rush (Irene) of Colorado Springs, CO. She is also survived by her sister Sarah Zabrocki (Drew) and niece Kaelyn of Wenatchee, her mother Sandy Lolos Lee (Mike) of Marana, AZ and countless aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.
Amy was blessed to have been loved and supported by her 2 dads, Gregory Thofson and Thomas Barnhart, both of whom preceded her in death.
Services will be held at Columbia Grove Church, 19 McElmurry Lane, East Wenatchee, WA on Friday, November 15th at 3:00 p.m., reception with light refreshments will follow.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, anyone interested may donate in Amy's memory to Recovery Navigators of Chelan-Douglas Counties, a program of The Community for the Advancement of Family Education (CAFE) dedicated to connecting individuals struggling with substance abuse to community resources, support and treatment options. CAFE is a local 501c3, donations can be made at www.wenatcheecafe.org.

I do not know Amy, nor any of you, but wanted to say, "What a beautiful obituary." To share her trials and tribulations with the public reminds us that no matter what your upbringing, education, path in life, accomplishments, etc....the struggles are real. I´m so sorry for your tragic loss of this beautiful young woman.

Amy, I will miss you. You were the only other person in the world I knew who enjoyed birthdays as much as I do, you always went out of your way to make me feel special on my day , it was fun trying to out do each other (a lot of planning went on!!) You were the glue that kept our gang going, always coming up with reasons for our get togethers, making sure we all participated . You will be missed , Love you my friend ..

Sandra, Mike and Sarah, I am so sorry to hear you have lost Amy. I will certainly hold you in my heart as you navigate this sad, difficult time. I had the opportunity to play Bunko with Amy and her friend Angie a couple time over the years. And although she did not really remember me I remembered her and enjoyed a litte reminiscing of the old days. May Amy rest in peace and her family find peace. Sincerly, Cyd
