John Sestilli Obituary

John Michael Sestilli, Sr., 77, of Terryville, CT, passed away at home unexpectedly on Saturday, October 18, 2025. He was born October 7, 1948, in Waterbury, CT. As the son of the late Saverio "Sam" and Mary (Carpenter) Sestilli, John was a first-generation American citizen. John (aka "Johnny Dump Truck") was the owner-operator of Rapid Wheels Services. He started his career in the trucking and construction industries in 1964 and always had a passion for trucks, cranes, excavators, and all big power equipment. He owned various antique trucks over the years and had a particular love for Mack B Models and Autocars. John enjoyed attending truck shows and was an active member of the Antique Truck Club of America - CT Yankee Chapter. His passion included auto racing, as well, and he loved telling the story of lending his racecar to Paul Newman at Lime Rock Motor Park in the 1970s. John was a legendary story and joke teller who captivated others with his racy jokes, charismatic personality and one-of-a-kind laugh. He appreciated good food, specifically Italian cuisine, and had a special place in his soul for the North End of Boston, MA. He had a huge heart and was well-known for selflessly helping anyone who needed it. John's friends and family saw him as a big teddy bear who loved his cats, diner breakfasts, the word "awesome," working on his trucks, his wife's cooking and his children. John is survived by his wife, Tania (Mitchell) Sestilli of Terryville, CT. He also leaves behind his son John "Jay" (Jennifer) Sestilli, Jr. of CT, his two daughters, Melissa (Clayton) Spangler of PA and Alicia (Sheena) Vazquez of PA, his sister, Margaret Niewirowicz of CT, and several beloved nieces, nephews and grandchildren. John is preceded in death by his sister, Theresa Chamberlain. Family and friends may visit Scott Funeral Home (www.scottfuneralhomeinc.com) at 169 Main St., Terryville, CT on Friday, October 24, 2025, from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM. I own some of the sweetest memories of John!!
Hearing of his sudden passing hit a deep spot in my heart..He was like a Big Uncle to me...
Growing up , our home on Atwood Avenue was located DIRECTLY across from his home. His childhood home.... My mother and his Mother were close friends and many was the New Years Eve his parents, "Sam and Mary" sat at MY Fathers table.. together they drank Vino and broke bread.

Although I am 14 years " Johnny Dumptrucks"
junior , as a young kid, I watched him work on those special "Macs" every Saturday morning!!!...with the local WWCO radio station blasting the oldies, John would peek his head out from neath the truck and with a HUGE smile, tell me to go inside and ' say Hello' to his wife Teri ( at the time, another wonderful person in my life of 17 years !!
I spent many hours in that house , with babies Melissa and Ali, and young Jay as well...
I send my love and deepest empathy to ALL his loved ones and family...
John, I know you are riding in the COOLEST antique truck, smiling down, wind in your hair and 1000 watt smile on your face!!
With love and fondest memories, "Nanny"
