Joyce Giebel Obituary
Joyce Giebel, 81, of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2025. Born on December 30, 1943, to Benjamin and Dolores Karls, Joyce grew up on her family's farm in Charlesburg, WI. On September 4, 1965, she married the love of her life, John Giebel. Together, they made their home in Fond du Lac and raised five children: Brenda (Jim) Tiedt, Debbie Giebel (Nick Kiesow), Rob (Pam) Giebel, Jeff Giebel, and Heather (Rich) Trachta.
A true entrepreneur, Joyce poured her energy and passion into several businesses, most notably Parkside Tavern in Fond du Lac-still the source of many cherished stories-and the Community Hall in Mount Calvary, where her legendary seafood buffet drew crowds from near and far. She was a dedicated leader in the Tavern League of Wisconsin, serving as president of the Fond du Lac chapter and as a member of the state board of directors.
Joyce's greatest joy was her family. She treasured playing cards with her siblings, hosting her ever-popular liver and onions nights, preparing her famous pancake breakfasts for her grandchildren, and visiting Heather and her family in San Diego. She delighted in teaching and playing King's Corners and cribbage with her grandchildren and anyone willing to join in.
Joyce's enthusiasm for sports was infectious. She was a fan of the Brewers, Bucks and Packers, and during the Olympics, she rarely missed an event-often sacrificing sleep to catch as much as she could. Even more, she was a devoted supporter of her children's and grandchildren's athletic pursuits, cheering proudly from the stands at countless games over the years.
Joyce is survived by her husband of 60 years, John Giebel; her children; grandchildren: Ian (Karli) Giebel, Jordan Giebel (Madison Simon), Justin Newhouse (Ellie Hoeper), Abbey Trachta, and Ash Trachta; and her great-grandchild, Harper Giebel. She is also survived by her siblings, Ron (Sue) Karls, Diane Nett, Audrey Shaefer, Allen (Donna) Karls, Karen Karls, sister-in-law, Lorraine Karls, and John's siblings: Norb Giebel, Ambrose (Ruth Ann), Ruth Piehl, Ida (Terry) Campbell, Eugene Giebel, Bernie (Vicki) Giebel and Anna Giebel.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Veterans Home in King, Wisconsin, for their compassionate care.
A celebration of Joyce's life will be held at 11:30 AM until 3:30 PM on November 9th at Whispering Springs Golf Club in Fond du Lac, WI. Zacherl Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
