Linda Mettemeyer Obituary

Linda Kay Mettemeyer, age 77, of Quincy, IL passed away peacefully December 29 at Good Samaritan Home. Linda was born in LaCrosse, WI and raised in Quincy, IL, attended St. James Lutheran grade school and Quincy High School. She then attended flight school in Los Angeles, CA where she earned her wings as a flight attendant with Continental Airlines. On July 19, 1969 Linda married Richard Mettemeyer and celebrated 56 years of marriage in 2025. Together they had three children as Linda became a full-time homemaker and passionate cheerleader for her husband's career and her children's and grandchildren's endeavors in sports, music, cheerleading and college. Linda was a prodigious hobbyist designing macramé lawn chairs and Halloween costumes, curating her yard and flower gardens, reading novels and playing Bridge, to name just a few. Later in life Linda enjoyed preparing tax returns for the Quincy community each tax season with her sister-in-law. Linda was a philanthropist with her time and resources, supporting family members in need, housing students and sponsoring a child in India.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by son Eric (Jill) Mettemeyer of Big Sky, MT, son Alan (Amy) Mettemeyer of Ozark, MO, daughter Kelly (Darin) Kent of Quincy, IL, sister Margo Miller, grandchildren Max Mettemeyer, Yale Mettemeyer, Payton Mettemeyer, Paige Mettemeyer, Tyler Kent and Madison Kent, Brother and Sister In-Laws Bob (Leona) Mettemeyer, Jim (Elaine) Genenbacher, Kenny (Joyce) Terwelp, Marylin Hildebrand, Rita Zehnle, Shelly Mettemeyer and Jim Mettemeyer as well as many nieces and nephews.
