Elizabeth "Liz" Dianne Martin, age 85, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025, at CHI St. Alexius Hospital in Williston, ND, surrounded by her loving family.
Liz was born on January 31, 1940, to Arnold and Emily (Schroeder) Olson. She grew up in Williston, ND, and graduated from Williston High School in 1958.
On October 11, 1959, she married Thomas Martin. From their union came four beautiful daughters: Rebecca "Becky" Lynn, Barbara "Barb" Diane, Brenda Lee, and Elizabeth "Beth" Ann.
Liz lived a life rich in love and generosity. She was a devoted homemaker and farmer's wife for many years. She later worked in various bookkeeping roles, at Robinson's Jewelry, and Imes Law Firm. However, her true vocation was in nurturing her family and community.
Liz had many passions, painting, tending to her flowers, sewing, needlework, mending clothes, cooking, and baking. She poured love into everything she did, whether it was stitching a hem, baking a pie, or cheering on a grandchild from the sidelines. She never missed an important moment in her daughters' or grandchildren's lives, whether it meant traveling for sporting events, recitals, concerts, or plays. She was there for every birth, every graduation, and every wedding; always present, always supportive.
A woman of deep faith, Liz was confirmed at First Lutheran Church and later became an active member of Faith Methodist Church. Her church involvement included singing in the choir, playing handbells, participating in Bible Studies, and being part of Circle. She also gave back to her community through organizations like PEO, North Dakota Cattle Women's Organization, Homemakers Group, Community Concert, and the Art Show Committee. She was a proud member of the Women's Auxiliary at the hospital and was honored as Volunteer of the Month.
Liz found special joy in watching her daughters sing together as the "Martin Sisters," spending tireless hours at the piano writing parts for their music and sewing performance outfits.
She enjoyed their travels and performances, including a cherished trip to Norway and their performance at the Bicentennial of the American Revolution in Philadelphia in 1976.
She will be remembered for her warm spirit, generous heart, and the joy and laughter she brought into every room. Liz was quietly giving, deeply loving, and had a smile that could light up a room. Her kindness, humor, and grace touched the lives of everyone who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Emily Olson; her brothers, Jerry (JoAnn) and Alan Olson; her grandson, baby boy Langerud; and her great-granddaughter, Alexis Faith Lund.
She was also preceded in death by her in-laws, Fritz and Gert Martin, and Arthur and Virginia Redfield, each of whom held a special place in her heart throughout her life.
Liz is survived by her daughters and their families: Becky Wahlstrom and her children, Shane (Abrianna) Wahlstrom, and their children Navy, Graham, and Roe; and Quinn Wahlstrom. Barb (Larry) Langerud, and their children: Cass (Mike) Lund, and their children Jordan and Jett; and Corey (Megan) Langerud, and their children Huxon and Brekken. Brenda (Brad) Sundby and their children: Brad Jr., and his children Trevyn, Talyb (Grace), and Haylee; and Brenna (Don Nelson). Beth Martin, and her children: Nicole (Mason), and their children Owen, Ellie, and Bennett; Mike (Kate) Schmidt; and Matt Schmidt.
She is also survived by her beloved sister, Edith Ann (Jerry) Houle; her brother, John (Lorrie) Olson; and many dear nieces and nephews.
Liz's legacy is one of unwavering love, steadfast faith, and a lifetime of beautiful moments shared with those she cherished most. Her absence leaves a deep void, but her memory and influence will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
