Robert Kane Obituary

SHERBURNE: Robert E. Kane, Jr., 76 of Williams Rd., passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2024. He was born June 28, 1948, in Utica, a son of the late Robert E. Sr., and Florence (VanDyke) Kane. Robert graduated from Earlville High School and received vocational training at BOCES. He was united in marriage to Patricia S. Baker on July 20, 1968, in Sherburne. He worked for Norwich Manufacturing as a journeyman tool and die maker until his retirement in 2010. Robert was a covered bridge enthusiast and traveled all over visiting local and other bridges throughout the country. His interest was not only in their beauty, but also the preservation and restoration of the bridges. He was a member of the New York State Covered Bridge Society and many other covered bridge societies. Surviving is his wife, Pat "Trish" ; a daughter Lorie Wessing of Earlville; grandchildren, Mark and Brittany Wessing, Jr. and great granddaughter, Sophie June of Guilford, Tyler and Victoria Wessing and great grandson, Carter James Scott of Glen Allen, VA; son and daughter in law, Robert E. and Tammy Kane, III and grandchildren, Trace Robert Eugene Kane and Olivia Aidan Kane all of Sherburne; two sisters, Eileen Frances of Brookfield, Violia Davies of N. Norwich; two brothers, Eugene Kane of Piffard, NY David Kane of Luther, OK and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Kathy Larkin, Lorraine Sawyer and a brother, James Kane. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 am from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne, NY 13460. Friends are invited and may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations in Bob's memory be made to the Oxford Memorial Library-TBCB Resource Center.
