Edward Wolpert Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Edward Martin Wolpert, on September 2, 2025. He was born on June 16, 1935, in Brooklyn, New York, to Saul and Sadie Wolpert, and was married to Margot Keith Green for 13 years. This marriage produced joyful family memories with the arrival of their son and daughter.

Edward was a devoted educator, financial advisor, author, father, brother and veteran. He was a skilled musician who played the piano, cello and bagpipes. Ed was an avid runner for many years whose adventures included the Mile High and Boston marathons.

Edward's academic journey reflected a passion for knowledge and personal growth. At the University of Rochester, he earned a Bachelor of Music in 1959 and a Master of Arts in 1960. He proceeded to earn a Doctorate in Education from the University of Kansas in 1970, a Bachelor of Arts from Georgia College in 1997, and completed a Professional Education Program in Financial Planning at the College of Financial Planning in 1999.

His career in education was both impactful and inspiring. Ed began teaching in Brooklyn elementary schools (1962-1967), then served as an instructor at the University of Kansas (1967-1970). He became a faculty member and Chair of the Department of Education at Ball State University (1970-1983) and later served as Dean of the School of Education at Georgia College and State University from 1983 to 2000. Ed's leadership and dedication left a lasting imprint on students, colleagues and educational institutions.

After retiring from academia, Edward followed his passion to help individuals plan for financial stability and success by founding Oconee Financial Planning Services. He authored several notable publications aimed at making financial knowledge accessible to a wide audience.

During his retirement, Ed found peace, happiness and good friends at his vacation home in Blue Ridge, Georgia. His daughter lived with him and provided loving support as Ed's health declined. After the passing of his daughter, he relocated to Shelbyville, Indiana, to live closer to his family. Ed made many lifestyle changes during the past year and took them on with a positive outlook. His family is so appreciative of everyone who helped Ed live his best life.

Ed is survived by his son, James (Roberta) Wolpert, his brother Stephen (Beth) Wolpert, and grandchildren Keith Wolpert, Kim (Steven) Dixon and Gwen (Travis) Fitzpatrick. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carolyn G. Wolpert, and brother Robert Wolpert.
